Cancun or Bust - Part 2

This is what LG would have preferred doing at Chichen Itza all day - play in the dirt. We went on a tour and I put him down every chance we got, but mostly he was being carried around. It was a hot day and I think that was a little tough on the little man. There was a time where he was too tired, hot, and cranky. Overall he held up really well, though. He's a very resilient little guy. We've put a lot of demands on his "schedule" this week and he's been great about the changes.

What would you call these birds that were so entertaining to LG? Peacocks? That's what I would have said, but I'd be wrong. In fact (thank you, Mom, for adding this little tidbit to our ever expanding wealth of useless facts) these are peafowl. One is a peacock. One is a peahen. You guess which is which.

Here we are. Safely riding along with our child securely fastened into his car seat. Ahhh.... seat belts would be helpful to lock down the car seat. This was the best vehicle ride this child has ever had. None of those 5 point harnesses holding him back from all the exploring he wants to do.

Sand. Fun, fun sand. Fun for the fingers. Fun for the toes. Fun for the mouth. Just plain fun.

More fun. Endless fun.

We found the Mexican men to be extremely fun around LG. Here in the states, guys will take a look at the baby, tell us how cute he is, maybe give him a quick squeeze on the cheek, but then they're on their way. In Mexico, the men were so animated. They were dancing, jumping around, playing peek-a-boo... working hard to get a laugh out of the babe. It was so fun to see - and Ian loved it too. He's all about getting more attention.

Oh, the silly things we do for a picture.

So sad - our last night in Cancun. This was our favorite restaurant - Jugo de Limon. The atmosphere was perfect for having the little man. The tables overlooked the dolphins at the aquarium. And one of the walls was a shark tank. If ever Ian became bored with his surroundings, we'd just take him over to the shark tank. Worked like a charm.

Cancun was a fantastic family vacation for the five of us. I think the warm Caribbean air and sunshine was needed. Ian may have even gotten a little spoiled. We got home to temperatures in the teens and tried to go for a hike over the weekend. He was having none of it and we had to abort the mission. I think all three of us are ready to go back to Mexico.

Cancun or Bust - Part 1

I have a feeling there may be a few installments of Mexico pictures this week. We rarely have a problem of taking too few photos.

LG got his first passport stamp this weekend as we are taking our "Christmas" vacation in February. Lovely Cancun. He's a big fan and has been the happiest of happy babies which has made an enjoyable trip all that much more enjoyable.

Some highlights so far:

Celery is quite the entertainment prop. The only problem was that he couldn't get the entire piece in his mouth at one time. Here we are at the airport for a 3 hour layover.

The kiddo didn't sleep a wink on either flight. I was happy to have Tony along on this one for another source of entertainment for the child. He was an angel, though. We got comment after comment from other passengers. "What a beautiful baby." "What a sweet child." "He did such a great job on the plane." Show off.

Nothing better than sunrise over the ocean. Ok - one thing better. Sunrise with the best baby, best husband, and best parents...

I tried to keep the sand out of LG's mouth for the first 10 seconds he was on the ground, but quickly realized it was a lost battle. He didn't seem to mind in the least. In fact, I think he enjoyed getting dirty. I love it. I love having a boy that wants to tumble in the grime.

Grandpa Gary's getting some good one on one time showing LG the beach. Being outside, listening to the waves has been soothing to the babe. He just watches the wind blow the trees. Watches the waves.

Corona's for everyone! What a treat for those gums - those gums that still bear no teeth.

One on one Grandma Nan time on the beach. Apparently, she's great for napping on.

Tony and I have taken advantage of built in baby sitters on the trip a couple of times. Today we even got some SCUBA diving in. What a treat! We inquired on our dive and learned that kids can get certified at aage 10. If LG takes to the water as much as we think he will, he'll be quite the little diver.

Loves, loves, loves the water. It was pretty cold, his teeth - or shall I say, gums - were chattering, but he still had a huge grin on his face the whole time he was in the pool. It's so fun watching him "swim" about. He does get his arms and legs going like a little frog, though.

Henry's Finally Here!

Henry has arrived! This will most certainly be a buddy for LG! Henry has the best parents. Really, when I'm around these two and their 3-year-old, I'm taking notes. This is how I want to raise my child. Amy and Andy welcomed their little man this morning at 10:12 am. All 22 inches, 9 pounds, 14 ounces of him. The next "girl's weekend" (aka - Liuga Weekend) has been scheduled for April, so LG and I have to wait until then to meet him. Pictures will have to suffice until that time.

Standing

Standing. Really? Are you kidding me? Why are you growing up so quickly, my little one?

Food, Clothing Malfunction, and Hike

Here's what our freezer looks like. Milk and little ice cube shaped foods. And food is coming along for our little man. It's taken a while, but pears and prunes have changed his ways. These two foods are clear favorites and now we can mix them with others. Tricky, tricky... So far we've done sweet potato, avocado, butternut squash, carrot, apple, and of course pears and prunes.

Here's another 'Tony dressing Ian' event. Right leg going the the right sleeve... silly. No wonder Ian was so upset.

For now hiking with Ian means nap time for the little man. Tony and I went for a hike in the Blue Hills on Saturday (about 15 minutes south of Boston). Beautiful day with the family.

"Reading" Baby

Hello from the Children's Museum. LG is getting more use out of the "crawlers only" room. Not crawling yet, but moving around the foam pads quite well.

This book is too funny. It's a touch and feel book that has different textures. The soft cotton was a favorite. He would touch it with his hands and then lick it. By the end of his inspection, it was a soft, wet cotton page.

Touch, feel, and lick in action:

Will Scoot for Cat

It won't be long before we have a crawling baby. His scooting is becoming more and more efficient much to MacKenzie's dismay.
